HANSEL AND GRETEL POSTER REDRAW
When I was in the 8th grade, I was asked to illustrate a poster for California Lutheran University's production of Hansel and Gretel. After completing the final product, I was so proud of myself for pushing my artistic boundaries, as I rarely drew full pieces with multiple characters and backgrounds. Later on, in 2021, I felt it was time to give this illustration an update, as I was starting to get more confident with my typography. To me, redrawing a piece you dislike is low-hanging, ego-boosting fruit, but redrawing a piece you love turns into a challenge in order to show you've improved. That's why I gave it one more go, which is the poster you're looking at now. The first two redraws focused on my personal art style, so I wanted to instead redraw this with an emphasis on the audience and content style instead. The storybook art style emphasizes the fantasy, fairytale aspect of the original story, with accompanying blackletter text to reference the Grimm/Humperdinck German origins. However, the general composition and character design was kept from the original two pieces, as I did want to test my environmental illustration and anatomy improvement. If you come back in a few years, I'll probably redraw it again, so stay tuned!
